Shaheen Ahmed gets lifetime achievement award

On the occasion of the 118th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Channel i organised a fair titled ‘IFIC Bank-Channel i Nazrul Mela’ on its premises in the capital’s Tejgaon area on May 25. Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra singer Shaheen Samad was bestowed a lifetime achievement award for her contributions to the field of Nazrul Sangeet this year.
Managing director of Channel i Faridur Reza Sagor, Managing Director of IFIC Bank Shah Alam Sarwar, music exponent Azad Rahman, artist Mostafa Monowar and singer Ferdous Ara handed over an ‘uttorio’ (a celebratory scarf), a crest and a cheque worth Tk 50,000 to the recipient of the award at the Nazrul Mela.
After receiving the award, Shaheen Samad said, “I have completed 50 years in the field of music. Channel i works as a medium to spread Nazrul Sangeet in the whole world. This award is a big achievement for me. The award, given by Channel i, has increased my responsibility towards Nazrul Sangeet.”
Starting at 4:30pm, this year’s Nazrul Mela featured performances of Nazrul Sangeet by young and veteran singers, dance dramas, children’s dances, recitations of Nazrul’s poems, deliveries of Nazrul’s essays and drawings on Nazrul. In addition, around 15 stalls of small and handicraft industries were installed on the premises of the fair.
During the opening ceremony of the programme, music exponent Azad Rahman, Khalid Hossain, artist Mostafa Monowar, Syed Abul Maksud, Syed Hasan Imam, Dr Enamul Haque, singer Ferdous Ara, Leena Taposhi Khan, Sadia Afreen Mallik and others were present.
Eminent Nazrul Sangeet singers Nashid Kamal, Dr Leena Taposhi Khan, Rahat Ara Geeti and others rendered songs at the programme, while Syed Hasan Imam, Laila Afroz and Jayanta Chattopadhyay recited poems. At the fair, artistes of Sur Saptak presented choral songs while artistes of Sera Nachiye performed group dances.
Ferdous Ara’s ‘Nazrul Sangeet Samagra’, a compilation of Nazrul Sangeet in seven parts, has been published at the Nazrul Mela.
Earlier, Sohrab Hossain, Sudhin Das, Feroza Begum, Nazrul researcher Prof. Rafiqul Islam, Khalid Hossain, Ferdousi Rahman, Mustafa Zaman Abbasi and Ferdous Ara have received the ‘Nazrul Mela’ award.
