After being discovered by a talent manager through his YouTube covers in 2008, Justin Bieber has gone on to become one of the most notorious and successful musicians of our times. The Purpose World Tour is the third worldwide tour by the Canadian singer. The tour which started on March 9, 2016 in Seattle and will soon head to India on May 10, 2017, will conclude on September 24, 2017 in Tokyo. In the week running up to his first ever Indian gig, reports of his many extravagant demands made headlines, here’s presenting a list of interesting facts about the Indian leg of the tour.
• Justin Bieber who is known to make regular and exclusive appearances on Emmy-award winning Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show, may be making a guest appearance on Karan Johar’s popular chat show. Johar has interviewed practically every A-lister in the Bollywood film fraternity beginning from Shah Rukh Khan to Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone to Priyanka Chopra and the list goes on.
• Sources privy to the discussion state, “This will be the first time an international celebrity of Bieber’s calibre will be featuring on an Indian chat show. Karan Johar is known as the ‘Ellen of Indian television’ to be very precise and has conducted interactive chat show dialogues with international celebrities of the likes of Richard Gere, Maria Sharapova, Hugh Jackman and Christian Louboutin apart from working closely with Meryl Streep, Robert De Niro, George Clooney at world forum panels. He will definitely to do full justice to this one-on-one exchange if Bieber actually does decide to reserve a time slot for it in his busy schedule.”
• According to reports, the second day of his visit will entail a tour around Mumbai. The hotspots being zeroed in on include, the Gateway of India, Kala Ghoda, Mani Bhavan that showcase a mix of heritage and history. The city tour will be followed by a luxurious Ayurvedic spa session considering Bieber’s love for massages. A visit to an underprivileged home is also being planned apart from a possible party being hosted by a leading industrialist and film star. Actress Jacqueline Fernandez, a self-proclaimed ‘Belieber’, is expected to be the singer’s tour guide in the city.
• The first day of the visit will entail a lavish dining experience that will explore the nuances of the finest maharaja cuisines served by royal butlers flown in especially from Rajasthan. Justin Bieber, who has publicly proclaimed his love for Indian food will be served rich authentic cuisine representing the 29 states of India. A source closely associated with Bieber’s maiden India tour revealed, “Bieber loves Indian food and has it every time he’s in the UK. So, the organisers will chalk out a special desi menu comprising his favourite Indian dishes — chicken tikka and tandoori chicken.”
• Two 5-star hotels in Mumbai city have been reserved for security reasons. Top culinary experts will supervise the gourmet being served to Bieber over the 4 days of his stay with 5 dishes per day being renamed after his popular songs. The hotels will re-design his suite and incorporate Mogul paintings, antique furniture and signature Kashmiri bedroom linen. The hotel will convert three of its floors into Bieber’s private villa and reserve one elevator for the pop icon during his stay. A special Indian Yoga Casket containing aromatic essential oils; jasmine, mogra, rose and camphor incense sticks; and books on chakras and yoga asanas will be placed in Bieber’s suite knowing his love for the artform. A licensed female masseuse will be flown in from Kerala especially for Justin on all 4 days. 100 hangers, cans of wild berries and vanilla room fresheners, hydrating lip balms - these are some of the special requests being catered to in his suite. Traditional gold and silver plated thalis are being customised with engravings of the artist and his entourage’s name embedded on the dinner plates in beautiful Devanagari script.
• Bieber has requested that his dressing room be draped entirely with white curtains, a large glass-door refrigerator, eight power outlets and 12 white handkerchiefs. To quench his thirst, he demands 24 still water bottles, 24 alkaline water bottles, 4 energy drinks, 6 vitamin water bottles, 6 cream sodas as well as a cooler packed with assorted juices and fizzy drinks. The singer also lists 4 natural juices, 4 vanilla protein drinks and half a gallon of almond milk.
• In every dressing room, the popstar’s entourage has listed a requirement for 2 packages of plain white crew neck t-shirts, 2 packages of white tank tops, 3 packages of white low-rise socks, size. And to top it off, a boombox with an iPhone battery in order to keep the Biebs happy backstage.
