Hasan Imam�s 80th birth anniv to be celebrated in style today

Noted cultural personality Syed Hasan Imam, who has been contributing immensely to the world of the country’s art and culture as a successful actor, film director, producer and a cultural activist over the decades, will turn 81 today. Imam’s 80th birth anniversary will be celebrated through a special programme at the Shawkat Osman auditorium of the Central Public Library, Shahbag this evening.
A commemorative book titled ‘Nil Chhuya Kingbadanti’ will also be published at the event, besides a floral reception to Hasan Imam, delivering speeches and documentary screening.
To organise a wonderful event on the occasion of Imam’s birthday, a committee ‘Hasan Imam Jonmodin Udjapan Parshad’ has been formed that included more than 200 cultural activists of the country.
Hasan Imam expressed his feelings on the occasion, “Truly, this is one of the most memorable days in my life. By the grace of the Almighty, I could spend eighty long years in good health. I earnestly request everyone to pray for me that I can live a healthy life as long as I am alive. I am grateful to everyone, who have worked really hard to make the day special for me.  I wish them all the best.”
Eminent dance artiste-actress Laila Hasan, wife of Hasan Imam, and their daughter Sangita Imam will be present at the birthday celebration programme and say a few words about the life and works of the veteran actor.
Born in 1935 in Bardhaman at his maternal uncle’s house, Hasan Imam contributed massively to the arena of film direction and production, acting and different cultural movements. He made his first film titled ‘Lalon Fakir’ in 1972. Then, he made two more films titled ‘Lal Sabujer Pala’ and ‘Abichar’. He appeared in the film for the first time in the year of 1961 in the film ‘Dharapat’, which was the third film directed by Salahuddin. Then, he acted in a number of films, including ‘Raja Elo Shohore’, ‘Shit Bikel’, ‘Onek Diner Chena’, ‘Janajani’, ‘Ujala’, ‘Porwana’, ‘Iss Dhorti Por’, ‘Kagojer Nouka’, ‘Anarkoli’, ‘Ghuddi’, ‘Sareng Bou’ and ‘Dumurer Phul’.
To note, he also carried out the responsibility of general secretary of the Film Artistes’ Association and president of the Film Directors’ Association.  l
