Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon made a good observation about the Tigers’ recent tour’s performance, stating that although the draw in three formats a biggest achievement for them, emerging a matured Shakib and the ‘massive’ teamwork were the important things in Sri Lanka series.
Papon went to Sri Lanka several times to morally boost the players and inspire the team on the stroke of the tour. During his stay, he observed these positive signs amongst the team and its players.
“It may be an achievement that we drew in Test, ODI and T20. But I think we should win all the matches of the series. Bangladesh is not a team like the past. We have to understand that we don’t fear any team. There some individual skills have been made but we got a massive team work throughout the series,” said Nazmul Hassan.
“No player did bad performance whether we lost or won the match of Test, ODI and T20. We are getting a new teamwork among the team’s players,” Papon told reporters.
Citing the names of senior players-Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza along with junior players-Mehedi Hasan Miraj, Sabbir Rahman and Mosaddek Hossain, the BCB president said that they have done their level best for the team’s success.
“We got some new players likes of Miraj, Sabbir and Mosaddek. They did matchless fielding,” the president said.
“Again, Shakib, who is number one all-rounder in the world, we see him in a new aspect. We got a matured Shakib. It seems that he feels more responsibilities inside him. These are positive side,” he also said.
“Mushfiq’s wicket-keeping is also well. I think I like his wicket-keeping more than his batting. You don’t need to raise question. You see are they performing or not. We all feel proud of them. Do you see Mashrafe’s bowling. He was the best bowler. So, the combine effort is important for Bangladesh team and that’s the important achievement for us from this series,” he added.
When asked about Mashrafe’s captaincy, Papon said that they don’t remove him from T20 squad.
“I repeatedly told that Mashrafe has not dropped from T20. We have not told anything yet that Mashrafe is not in T20 squad. He is not in captaincy,” BCB boss said.
“We have three captains in three formats. If he tells that he is fit, he will then play. If he does not want to play but if we have needed him, then we will not let him go,” he also said.
“Basic thing is that if he is fit he will be there. Captaincy has been splitting. Mushfiq was captain in our three formats. Then he left the two that’s meant he is not gone. We all should keep in mind that Mashrafe is not only a player he is somebody who is the most needed person. When he was made captain in ODI and T20 that time he was not in the squad. He was in injury. He has been made captain for the team for the special purpose that he did perfectly. We should be proud of it.”
