Maldivian Vogue model’s body handed over to family

The body of Raudha Athif, a foreign medical student and well-known international model, was handed over to her family members yesterday around 2pm after a post-mortem. Raudha (20), a Maldivian student, was found hanging from the ceiling of the dormitory of the Rajshahi Islami Bank Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday.
She was a second-year MBBS student of the college.
A three-member probe body, led by the head of the Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) forensic department, was formed for the post-mortem. The other members were Dr Enamul Haque and Dr Mansur Rahman.
No injury marks have been found on the medical student's body, sources said.
Raudha’s mother, Aminath Muharrimath, flew to Rajshahi along with the Maldives ambassador to Bangladesh, Aishath Shann Shakir, on Thursday afternoon.
She had requested the police to hand over the body without a post-mortem, said Amir Zafar, deputy commissioner of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.
However, Rajshahi police sought permission to carry out a post-mortem from the police headquarters in Dhaka and got it around 10pm yesterday.
“We didn’t get any evidence of killing.
The only explanation is that she had committed suicide. We handed over the body to her family members. We’ve recovered the viscera from her body. The final report will be given as soon as possible,” said Dr Enamul Haque.
The law enforcers, however, are not sure why the bubbly girl, who had once featured on the cover of the Vogue India magazine, has committed suicide.
The Maldives ambassador to Bangladesh and the victim's mother later visited the private medical college where Raudha had been studying for her MBBS degree.
They also spoke to Raudha’s friends, the college authorities and police.
The college authorities mourned Raudha’s death at a meeting yesterday morning. They termed the incident as ‘suicide’, which stemmed from “a wrong decision made from personal depression.”
