At least 1,500 vehicles, which were seized at different times for violation of traffic rules, have long been lying uncared for at police stations and court premises in Jessore.
They are being damaged due to negligence of the authorities concerned.
The vehicles, including motorcycles, pick-up vans, private cars, taxis, micro-buses, and mini trucks were seized by police time to time for violation of traffic rules and other
crimes in the district. But the vehicles have been lying under the open sky for a long time without settlement with the delinquent owners of the properties.
According to police sources, the owners of the vehicles do not take any interest when a case goes to the court. As a result, it takes much time for the disposal of the case.
Officer in-charge of Kotwali model
police station Sikder Akkas Ali said there is no particular place to keep the vehicles in a
police station.
The vehicles are being damaged as they are kept under open sky for a long time. As a result, weeds have grown around the vehicles. It is alleged that some local mechanics, in collusion with some corrupt officials including constables, steal engines and spare parts. When contacted SI Gopal Chandra Roy, the officer concern of court cases, said he joined Jessore three years ago and he found the vehicles lying there for no settlement.
