People have been suffering for long due to the bad condition of important Bhuapur-Tarakanda road in Tangail.
The road has not been repaired for the last two years. Potholes and cracks have developed in many areas of the road causing problems to vehicular movement.
According to sources, the 30 kilometres of road from Bhuapur toTarakanda connects Tangail, Dhaka and North Bengol districts.
The road is important as buses, trucks and other vehicles ply on the road. Bulk of the fertiliser produced at the Jamuna Fertilizer Factory is usually transported through the road.
But many potholes and ditches have developed on the road due to rain and water-logging hindering traffic movement. At many places bricks have been removed.
Sahabuddin, a bus driver, said due to the sorry state of the road it now takes two hours to pass through the road against half an hour drive.
The home-bound passengers before the Eid-ul-Fitr have been suffering a lot at the moment.
Minibus driver Alam said they are now unable to drive on the road. Many accidents occurred during the last one month, he said.
Md Ramjan Ali, Sub-Divisional Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department in Tangail, said they
have received an allocation of Tk 4 crores to repair 10 kms of road from Bahadipur to Nalin.
The work will start after rainy season. A proposal of repairing the rest 20 kms is under consideration of the authorities, he added.
