Bangladesh-Tripura Cultural Festival ends today

The three-day Bangladesh-Tripura Cultural Festival 2017 will end on the premises of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Dhaka’s Segun Bagicha today. The festival was organised to mark the relation between Bangladesh and the Indian state of Tripura. The festival featured seminars, solo and group recitations, song and dance performances, and plays. Besides, art works by the artists of Bangladesh, Agartala and Tripura are being exhibited at the National Art Plaza of BSA. Cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor will attend the closing ceremony of the festival at 6pm today at the National Theatre Hall. At 3pm today, a seminar—‘Itihash-Sangskriti Rakhibondhon-e Dui Janopod Bangladesh O Tripura’—will be held at the festival. Harun Habib will present a keynote paper there.
Moreover, Rupam Natyagoshthi of Tripura will stage a play titled ‘Harun Al Rashid’, directed by Kumar Shankar Paul, at the Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA at 6pm.
On January 19, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith inaugurated the festival as chief guest, while Tripura’s cultural affairs minister Bhanu Lal Saha was present as a special guest. The Indian high commissioner to Dhaka, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, MBB University vice-chancellor Prof. Gautam Bose, Bangladesh-Tripura Cultural Festival Council co-chairman Nasir Uddin Yousuff, leader of the Tripura Cultural Representative Team, Gautam Das, and BSA director-general Liaquat Ali Lucky attended the occasion as guests of honour.
After the inauguration, Tamanna Rahman and her troupe presented dance performances choreographed on songs like ‘Purba Digante Surja Uthechhe’, ‘Bijoy Nishan Urchhe Oi’, and ‘Ei Sammelane Somobeta Hoye Gai Jiboner Joyogan’.
Local artists Mohiuzzaman Chowdhury, Khairul Anam Shakil, Kiran Chandra Ray, and artists Sudeshna Chand, Shiboprosad Dutta, Tanuja Debbarma and Raja Hasan from Tripura presented musical performances at the event. Rahul Debbarman and Smita presented solo dance performances. Besides, Dhaka Sangskritik Dal, Dhaka University Sangeet Dal, Banhisikha and the Tripura-based Kokborok Sangeet Dal presented chorus performances. The festival yesterday saw poetry recitations. A Bengali poetry book from Tripura was released at the Studio Theatre Hall of BSA. Novelist Selina Hossain presided over the ceremony. Theatre (Bailey Road) staged its acclaimed production ‘Payer Awaj Pawa Jay’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA yesterday. Directed by the late thespian Abdullah Al Mamun, ‘Payer Awaj Pawa Jay’ is recognised one of the masterpieces of writer Syed Shamsul Haq. The production had its debut in 1976 and played an important role in the neo-theatre movement of Bangladesh. The play was recently redirected and designed by Sudip Chakraborty.
