Seasoned singer Tapan Chowdhury celebrates his birthday today and he is set to do it in a unique manner. On the occasion, Chowdhury has arranged a programme where he will honour seven veterans who helped him directly or indirectly to reach fame. He is also likely to release his solo album after 13 years titled ‘Phire Elam’. Bangla Dhol will organise an event on the occasion to be attended by Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed as chief guest at Dhaka Club in the capital. Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapash, MP, will be present as a special guest.
At the programme, Chowdhury will hand over crests to the seven veterans. The seven veterans, who played roles of immense importance in his career, are Subrata Barua, lyricist Nakib Khan, composer Pilu Khan, band legend Ayub Bachchu, film director of ‘Vaat Dey’ Amzad Hossain, composer Alauddin Ali, and lyricist-composer Tazul Islam.
Chowdhury was trained by Ustad Priyadaranjan Sen, Ustad Mihirlala and Ustad Sanjit Dey. He started his career with popular band Souls and worked with the band for 22 years. Later, he started to work as a solo singer. He performed as a playback singer in more than 300 films.
Contacted, Chowdhury said, “Today (Saturday) is my birthday. It is a great pleasure to me that on my birthday, I will be able to honour some people who contributed to make my music career a success.” However, I would miss my parents on this special day, he said, “If they were alive they would be honoured to see a special programme of their son. I am grateful to my wife, children and to my family members,” he added. Besides this programme, Tapan Chowdhury will perform at a music programme
titled ‘Aj Sokaler Gaan’ to be aired at 8:05am on NTV today.
