Severe punishment for food adulteration urged

Speakers at a discussion yesterday demanded severe punishment to those responsible for mixing chemicals with foods to save human lives, reports BSS.
They were addressing the anti-adulteration and anti-drug programme on 'Adulterate and Poison Free Food' arranged by Anti-Adulteration and Anti-Drug Movement at Dhaka Reporters' Unity to prevent food adulteration through creating public awareness.
Chaired by Lion Abdus Salam Chowdhury, adviser of the organisation, the discussion was also addressed, among others, by general secretary of Bangladesh Gono Azadi League Advocate SK Sikder, FBCCI directors Khandker Ruhul Amin and Abul Ayes Khan, chairman of Nabisco Group Kazi Ayesha Begum, restaurant owners association secretary general Shah Sultan Khokon along with others. Magistrate Rokon-ud-Doula said, "We have to create mass awareness to save the nation from food adulteration."
He said that if people avoid adulterated food then adulterated food traders will not do their businesses. The speakers called upon the administrations and law enforcement agencies to stop selling adulterated commodities in the markets. Expressing concern over the increasing trend of numerous deadly diseases, they stressed for launching social movement against food adulteration which threatens the next generations in becoming healthier and worthy citizens.
