On the occasion of the 81st birth anniversary of veteran writer Syed Shamsul Haq, a programme titled ‘Syed Haq-er 81 Janmo Jayanti’ initiated by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) and supervised by Drama and Film Department of BSA, has been arranged today at the National Theatre Hall of BSA in the capital.
The programme will feature lighting candles and placing floral wreaths on the portrait of Syed Shamsul Haq, commemorative discussion, reading out from Syed Haq’s article, poem and drama, recitation, music rendition, dance performance and others.
In the discussion part, Dhaka University Emeritus professor Dr Rafiqul Islam, noted theatre personalities Ramendu Majumder, Ataur Rahman, poet Mohammad Nurul Huda, noted film critic Anupam Hayat, noted litterateur Anisul Haque and Anyadin Editor Mazharul Islam will attend the discussion. BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky will preside over the event.
On the other hand, Jatiya Kabita Parishad has organised a daylong programme today to pay tribute to ambidextrous poet-writer Syed Shamsul Haq on his 81st birth anniversary at the Poet Shamsur Rahman auditorium of Bangla Academy in the capital.
Beginning from 11am, the daylong event of Kabita Parishad will feature discussion, recalling memories, recitation dedicating to poet Shamsul Haq and also reciting from the poetry of Syed Shamsul Haq.
Presided over by Jatiya Kobita Parishad president poet Muhammad Samad, Shamsuzzaman Khan, poet Rabiul Hossain, poet Ruby Rahman, Habibullah Siraji, writer Anwara Syed Haq, poet Mohammad Nurul Huda will attend the discussion as discussants.
Born in December 27 in 1935, Syed Shamsul Haq is one of the most profound litterateurs of Bangladesh. His poems are unpretentious and draw the readers easily. He wrote poetry, fiction, plays (mostly in verse), and essays for Bengali literature. His literary works are included in the curriculum of school level, secondary, higher secondary and graduation level in the country.
The poet was honoured with Bangla Academy Award, Swadhinata Padak, Ekushey Padak, Adamjee Literary Award, Padabali Kobita Award, Nasiruddin Gold Medal, National Poetry Award and many more. On September 27 in 2016, he died of lung cancer at the age of 80 in Dhaka.
