Cultural arena all set to celebrate 46th Victory Day

The nations will celebrate the 46th Victory Day today, paying tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to liberate the country from the clutches of Pakistan occupation force in 1971. Different socio-cultural organisations and educational institutions across the country will celebrate the day through special programmes and performances. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) is celebrating the occasion through a three-day programme featuring discussion, recitation, plays, music and dance performances and art exhibition. Commenced on December 14, the programme would conclude today.
Presided over by the BSA Director General Liakaut Ali Lucky, Barrister M. Amirul Islam would attend the concluding-day discussion as chief guest, while Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Vice-chancellor Professor Kamrul Hasan Khan would be present as special guest.
The cultural part of the event will be featuring solo recitation by Syed Hasan Imam, Jayanto Chattopadhyay, Naila Tarannum Kakoli, Aslam Shihir and Shimul Mustafa. The programme will also feature group dances, instrumental music, drama choreography and a play ‘Rajarbag 71’.  The programmes will be staged at the National Theatre Hall of the BSA.
To celebrate the day, theatre troupe Nagarik Natyangan Ensemble will stage a special show of their Liberation War-based production ‘Tora Sob Joyodhoni Kor’ at the Studio Theatre Hall of the BSA today.  Noted author-playwright Syed Shamsul Haq wrote the play while Ataur Rahman, who is known as ‘Mancha Sarathi’ in the theatre arena, directed it. The casts of the play includes Chanchal Shaikat, Abdullah Al Mamun, Saidur Rahman, Shefali Parveen, Abdul Aziz and others.
Also, on the occasion of the 46th Victory Day, Channel i has organised a day-long fair titled ‘Bijoy Mela 2016’ at the channel’s premises in the Tejgaon area today. The programme will begin at 10am with the presence of freedom fighters, artistes of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, members of Bangladesh Football and noted cultural personalities. The stalls of the fair will offer books, documents, photographs, films, diary of the Liberation War. Veteran artists will participate in paintings based on the theme of the Liberation War.
On the other hand, Dhaka University in association with cultural organisation Chhayanaut has organised a programme titled ‘Sokole Mile Desh-Gaan Gaibar, Desh-Kotha Bolbar’ at the central play ground of the university at 3:40pm, where around five thousand students from different universities will take part to make a national flag.
Besides, a week-long victory festival ‘Manabadhikar Dibas Theke Bijoy Dibas’ organised by the Liberation War Museum marking the 46th Victory Day ends today.
