Md Tanveer Hassan Rohan, 35, is an award-winning nature and travel photographer. He developed a deep passion for photography from an early age. But it was in 2012 that Rohan started taking photography seriously when he got his first DSLR camera. In a very short span of time, he has won numerous national and international awards. He is also a businessman, but despite his busy schedule, he always manages time to pursue his passion. |

How did you get into photography? What inspired you?
Nature always attracts me. When I went to the UK for higher education, I didn’t have enough money to buy an expensive camera, so I saved up to buy one. In 2012, my mother presented me a DSLR (digital single-lens reflex)
camera, and from there on, a new chapter in my life started. I was also inspired by John B Caddle, who is a great photographer, and also my Facebook friend. He helped me a lot and always inspired me. Many senior and young photographers and my family supported me too.
How important is institutional training for a photographer?
Photography is not that easy as many people would think. First, we have to learn the craft and then earn the respect through our good work. There are no shortcuts. The importance of institutional training varies from one person to another. Some may join an institute to learn, while others may find it easier to collect information from the internet. Again, some may prefer to take help from other experienced photographers. I did a basic course from PRISM photography institute.
What is photography according to you? Do you think photography is an art?
For me, photography is a strong medium to express our emotions and tell untold stories.
How important is Photoshop in your final images?
Photoshop is very important to me. I have to adjust the light, colour and fix the photo before the final output. And in creative work, like digital manipulation, Photoshop (an editing tool) plays a major role.
Please tell us about your biggest achievements.
I have taken part in many national and international photography contests. I have won more than 150 international awards, including IPA 2015 (2nd Place in General News Category), MIFA 2015 (1st Place In General News Category), Grand Winner ‘Photo for Tolerance & International Youth’ Photography Contest 2015, 1st prize in Sony World Photography Awards _ National Award 2016, 2nd Prize in Photojournalism category from Xposure International Photography Competition 2016, etc. I have taken part in many group exhibitions in Bangladesh and I have done two solo shows in the USA. I have also been awarded AFIAP distinction from Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP) in early 2016.
What’s your future goal?
In future, I want to help our young and talented photographers to show their work to the world.
