10 organisations and individuals in the power and energy sector to be awarded

PM to inaugurate power, energy week today

With the theme 'Indomitable Bangladesh', the power and energy week will start today. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to inaugurate it at the Bashundhara International Convention City.

During a press conference at Bidyut Bhaban yesterday, Nasrul Hamid, state minister for power, energy and mineral resources, said during this power week, the country will celebrate the production of 15,000 MW electricity.
"This is a great occasion for us," said the state minister.
Nasrul said Bangladesh has entered into modern and digital era. "Initiatives of bringing the modern facilities for power production in Bangladesh are taken. Soon we will see the benefit of it."
Replying to queries of the journalists he said that during this power week, initiatives are taken to educate general people about mega projects like Rampal and Rooppur.
"People have curiosity and questions regarding the project. There will be international standard seminar on these issues. It will also be live streamed on the website and facebook pages of the power division website."
Referring to the ECNEC meeting yesterday, he said that after the independence this particular ECNEC meeting passed the projects with the largest amount of money.
"Projects worth of $20 billion is passed in this ECNEC meeting. Out of this $20 billion, $13 billion alone is for Roopur Nuclear Power Plant. Another $1.6 billion is for a DPDC project." 
He said that such large projects on power and energy sector proves that the country has given its utmost importance on this.
In reply to another query about the budget of this power and energy week, Mohammad Hossain, Director General of Power Cell said that around 10 crore is going to spent for the occasion out of which 50 per cent is being contributed from the private sector and 50 per cent is from government exchequer.
Hossain said that during the power and energy week, four international seminars will be conducted on 'The technologies of coal based power plant', 'Smart Grids: Digital Bangladesh and Internet of Things', 'Energy efficiency case studies' and 'International Best practices in power & energy sector: Lesson for South Asia and Bangladesh'.
He said that, ahead of the week, a competition had been organised among students from 50 universities about their innovative ideas and projects on energy efficient and renewable energy projects.
"Out of these, 10 best projects will be displayed in an exhibition in the week."
He said that a total of 320 stalls from 125 government and private organizations will display their products during the week.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will distribute 10 awards to the organisations and individuals in the power and energy sector. 
Those include-two best private sector power producers, two best private energy sector organisations, one best electricity distribution  unit, one best government organization in energy sector, one best research projects from the university, one best speech award in the power and energy sector, one best report from Print media and one from electronic media.
Nazimuddin Chowdhury, Secretary of Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD), Monwarul Islam, Secretary of Power Division said, Anwarul Islam shikdar, Chairman of SREDA, Major General Moin Uddin Ahemd, Chairman of BREB, Dr Ahmed Kaikaus, Chiarman of BEPRC and Khaled Mahmud, Chiarman of PDB were also present at the press conference.
