About 250 years old traditional Ras festival, one of the biggest festivals of Hindu communities living in the country’s southern region, ended in Kuakata yesterday.
Several thousands of people joined and enjoyed the festival.At the festival, Hindu devotees worship Lord Krishna and pay tributes to his legends.
Bipul Howlder, president of Kuakata Rash Mela Arrangement Committee and Kalapara municipality mayor, said devotees believe that the bathing in the bay during this festival would wipe out all their sins.
He said various programmes including kirton (songs in praise of Radha-Krishna), religious discussion side by side of the rituals of Ghat Puja and Ganga Snan also took place during the festival.
Motaleb Sharif, secretary of Kuakata Hotel-Motel Owners’ Association, said a large number of devotees came to Kuakata this year.
Kalapara Upazila Nirbahi Officer ABM Sadikur Rahman said local administration had taken special security measures to celebrate the festival peacefully.
