‘Dhaka Int’l Folk Fest 2016’ kicks off Nov 10

The curtain will rise on the biggest folk music festival of the subcontinent titled ‘Dhaka International Folk Festival 2016’ on November 10. After the immense success of ‘Dhaka International Folk Festival 2015’, Sun Events, for the second time, is organising the three-day event with a view to introducing the world to the thousand-year-old folk music of the country. The festival will take place from November 10 to 12 at the same previous venue, Bangladesh Army Stadium in the capital, which will run everyday from 6pm to 12 midnight.
To make a formal announcement of this year’s folk festival, a press conference was held yesterday at the capital’s Westin Hotel. Managing Director of Sun Events Anjan Chowdhury, acting CEO and Chief Marketing Officer of Grameenphone Yasir Azman, Deputy Managing Director of Dhaka Bank Emranul Huq, Managing Director of Microsoft Bangladesh Sonia Bashir Kabir and Bengal Foundation Chairman Abul Khair attended the press conference.
The three-day festival will feature about 100 local and international folk musicians. The name of the musicians will be published on the festival’s website soon. To get entry passes, the audience needs to register online at www.dhakainternationalfolkfest.com, which will start from tomorrow. The registration will require National ID card, passport or student ID card. To know more about the festival and get updates, the interested music lovers can keep their eyes on the event’s Facebook page, Dhaka International Folk Fest or can call at 16374.
Also informed at the press conference, the security will be tightened centring the three-day festival. The audiences, who will be coming to the festival, cannot enter the venue with any type of bags. Moreover, there will be no parking facilities for the private cars at the festival venue.
Meril presents ‘Dhaka International Folk Festival 2016’, in association with GP Music, is powered by Dhaka Bank Limited and supported by Microsoft Bangladesh. Besides, Maasranga TV comes up as broadcast partner, while The Westin Dhaka as hospitality partner, Square Hospital as medical partner and Shohoz.com as registration partner. Besides telecasting on Maasranga TV, the festival will be aired live on YouTube also.
