Bangladesh Railway yesterday (Saturday) formally launched Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) train service on the Chittagong-Nazirhat route.
Railway Minister Mujibul Haque inaugurated the DEMU service at Chittagong Railway Station around 11:00 am. Each DEMU train has the capacity to carry around 300 passengers.
Mujibul Haque said, “The government had taken a plan to introduce commuter train services on different routes of the country.’’
Additional Secretary of Railway Kamol Krishna Bhattacharya presided over the inaugural session addressed, among others, by parliament member Mainuddin Khan Badal, Chairman of Standing Committee on Railway Ministry ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, AL president of Chittagong (south) Moslem Uddin, GM of the Bangladesh Railway Amzad Hossain and GM of the BR (eastern zone) Mozammel Haque.
