A factory to manufacture pre-paid electricity meters has been opened at Bangladesh Diesel Plant (BDP) in Gazipur, reports BSS.
State minister for power, energy and mineral resources, Nasrul Hamid, MP, yesterday formally inaugurated the factory at a function with a view to reduce misuse of power and system loss, an ISPR release said .
Bangladesh Army quarter master general and chairman of the BDP management board Lt General Anwar Hussain was present as the special guest at the function with BDP managing director Brigadier General Asif Ahmed Ansari in the chair.
“The country’s power subscribers are increasing day by day and total number of subscribers at present stood at 1.60 crores,” Ansari informed the meeting.
He said BDP has already set up successfully about 10,000 pre-paid electric meters at Azimpur network operation and customer service as part of a pilot project of Dhaka Power Distribution Company Ltd (DPDC).
BDP managing director said that the country needs a huge amount of meters for bringing all the people of the country under pre-paid electronic meters networks. Initially, he said, BDP has set up a pre-paid digital electric meter connection and testing factory to reduce dependence on import based pre-payment meters.
BDP and western engineering jointly established the factory with a production capacity of 650 meters per day.
