Army orders C295W tactical transport aircraft

Bangladesh has become the latest nation to acquire the Airbus Defence and Space (DS) C295W medium airlifter with an order for a single aircraft. The EADS CASA C-295 is a twin-turboprop tactical military transport aircraft, and is currently manufactured in Spain. According to a report published in Airbus Defence and Space magazine, the aircraft will be used by the Bangladesh Army Aviation. Once delivered, is will be the first multi-engine fixed-wing aircraft to be operated by the Bangladesh Army.
The aircraft, in transport configuration, will be delivered in the second half of 2017 under a contract that also includes customer support and training.
In its military role the C295 may be used for Tactical transport of troops, logistic supplies, airdrop of paratroops and loads and also antiterrorism, border control and homeland security by using its integrated surveillance systems, including the FITS, and perform Casualty evacuation (Casevac) /Medical evacuation (Medevac).
Alongside outstanding manoeuvrability and STOL (short take-off and landing) characteristics, the C295 offers optional self-protection equipment like cockpit armour, radar warning (RWR), missile warning (MAWS), laser warning (LWS), and chaff/flares dispensers and in flight refuelling capability.
The C295 is also available in an Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW) version and an Airborne Early Warning (AEW&C) and Control fitted with the IAI/ELTA 4th Generation Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar. Regarding the Bangladesh order, Airbus Defence and Space’s Head of Marketing and Sales, Jean-Pierre Talamoni said, “The C295W will markedly increase the transport capability of Bangladesh Army Aviation. We look forward to working with this new customer to secure a smooth entry into service and to supporting the aircraft for many years to come.”
With this new order the number of operators for the C295 rises to 26, reinforcing its position as the market-leading medium transport and patrol aircraft in all kinds of environments.  Airbus Defence and Space, a division of Airbus Group, is Europe’s number one defence and space enterprise and the second largest space business worldwide.
