Six-day event concludes thru award ceremony

The six-day ‘Bangladesh Short and Documentary Film Festival 2016’ saw its end on Saturday through an award giving ceremony at the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the city. In the short film category, Abid Mallik-directed ‘Path’ received the best film award while Sadat Hossain received best director award for the film ‘The Shoes’ and Mamunur Rashid-directed ‘Matir Pakhi’ received a special jury award.
On the other hand, Maqbul Chowdhury-directed ‘Not Penny, Not A Gaan’ received the best film award in the category of documentary film, while Farzana Bobby received the best director award for the film ‘Bishkanta’ and Fowjia Khan-directed ‘Je Golper Sesh Nei’ awarded with a special jury award in the same category.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed was present as chief guest at the Saturday’s closing ceremony and handed over the awards to the winners. Presided over by BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, Cultural Affairs Secretary Begum Akhtari Momtaz, eminent theatre personality Mofidul Haque, Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh president Lailun Nahar Shemy and film critic Fahmidul Haque were present as special guests at the programme.
BSA organised the six-day ‘Bangladesh Short and Documentary Film Festival 2016' in association with the Federation of Film Soci¬eties of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Short Film Forum and Bangladesh Documentary Council, which was begun on October 2.
The festival, which took place simultaneously at capital’s BSA premises and all districts Shilpakala Academy located in the 64 districts of the country, screened a total of 84 short and documentary films.  
A selection committee, consisting five members, selected 35 short films and 29 documentary films from more than 200 submitted films and the rest 20 films were selected from the films which were made earlier at different time for different reasons. Among the participating films, two best films and two best directors from both the short and documentary categories were selected for the award by a jury board. Each award recipient receives Taka 1 lakh, a crest and a certificate for best films and taka 50,000, a crest and a certificate for best directors.
