Afzal Sharif’s glorious journey continues

For those enthusiastic television aficionados who vividly remember BTV back in the early 90’s, there is no doubt that they will fondly recall the evergreen drama serials ‘Bahubrihi’ and ‘Ayomoy’, written by legendary late writer Humayun Ahmed. In those memorable respective drama serials, there were several entertaining characters and two of them, Kader and Mobarak, were played by none other than National Film Award winning actor Afzal Sharif.
Afzal Sharif so far has acted in more than 500 films. He made his entry into the acting world through the stage with the troupe ‘Theatre’ back in 1984 and first acted in Mir Mosharraf Hossain’s play ‘Jamidar Darpan’, directed by Momtazuddin Ahmed. This was followed by ‘Khotobikkhoto’, ‘Mahapurush’, ‘Saat Ghather Kanakori’. He first acted in the film ‘Padma Nadir Majhi’, directed by Goutam Ghosh. Then he acted in Chashi Nazrul Islam’s ‘Danga Fasad’, Sohanur Rahman Sohan’s ‘Laab’, Subhash Dutta’s ‘Abdar’. For his stellar role in Badiul Alam Khokon’s ‘Niswas Amar Tumi’, he was awarded with the prestigious National Film Award.
Regarding his glorious career, Afzal Sharif said, “My love for acting truly began from the stage. The stage and the theatre played a massive role towards me becoming today’s Afzal Sharif. Also, I truly owe my success to Humayun Ahmed sir. The viewers and audience played a pivotal role in my career. With their love and support, I want to continue my journey. I seek everyone’s blessings, well wishes and prayers.”
Time has not slowed the award winning actor down as he continues to be busy with several projects. This week, he will be quite busy with the shooting of Badiul Alam Khokon’s film ‘Harjeet’. Following that, he will begin the work for Safiuddin Safi’s film ‘Rajkumar’. On October 21, Afzal Sharif-acted film ‘Ek Prithibi Prem’, directed by SA Huq Alik, will see its release.
