Sheikh Iraj

How did you get into acting? Who inspired you?

From an early age, I loved to watch movies. I am a movie buff, movies attracted me and I wanted to see myself on the big screen. In the beginning, I did not have any confidence and I didn’t know how to start. I soon took admission in an acting course at the Prachyanat School of Acting and Design.
After completing my course there, I became a regular member of Prachyanat Theatre group. At Prachyanat, I have done stage performances, like ‘TragedyPolashbari’, ‘Bonmanush’ and ‘Gondar’. My first TV drama was ‘Satkhahon’, directed by Golam Shohorab Dodul.

Do you think institutional learning is necessary for acting?

Anyone can be an actor, but to become a good actor or versatile actor you need to work really hard and you need to study about acting.

Please tell us about your remarkable works so far.

Every work I have done so far is very close to my heart. But if I have to mention one, then it would be ‘SignUp’, which was the first online drama series in Bangladesh.

What keeps you busy nowadays?

Nowadays, I am busy with different TV drama serials like ‘Dohon’ directed by Aronno Anwar, ‘House Wife’ directed by Akram Hossain, and ‘Supergirls’ directed by Rubayet Mahmud. This Eid, I worked in the TV drama ‘Chhoto Kaku’, directed by Afzal Hossain.

What would be your advice to those who are looking to get a start?

In a way, I am a newcomer myself. I can share some of the advice I received that helped me to become a better actor. And those are: never give up hope, and stay positive. Always try to learn about acting from your seniors, read acting related books and practise regularly.

What’s your future plan?

I want to continue acting and keep entertaining people through my work.
