4.24 lakh yaba tablets seized

Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) members and a team of Rapid Action Battalion ( RAB-1) in separate drives seized 4, 24,000 pieces of yaba tablet from Chittagong and Gazipur yesterday and Friday night. Four alleged yaba traders were also arrested in Gazipur.
BSS adds from Chittagong: Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) members in a drive seized nearly 400,000 pieces of yaba worth about TK 19 crore from Sattar Majhir Ghat area under Anowara upazila of the district early Saturday. A team of BCG East Zone raided on an engine boat waiting at Sattar Majhir Ghat area at around 5 am, and seized three lakh 90,000 yaba tablets from the boat, said Zonal Commander M Nuruzzaman Sheikh.
“Sensing the presence of BCG members, the smugglers managed to flee leaving the boat”, the BCG commander said adding that the value of the tablets would be about TK 19 crore.
The seized tablets were handed over to the Narcotics Control Department, he added.
Our correspondent adds from Gazipur: A team of Rapid Action Battalion ( RAB-1) arrested four yaba trders, including a woman, from a residence at Mutarbari road of Tongi in Gazipur city on Friday night. The arrested were identified as Jafar Alam alias Iqbal, 37, son of late Lal Miah of Balukhali village under Ukhiya upazila in Cox’sbazar district, his wife Lucky Akter, 27, Mohammed Nannu Bhiyan, 37, son of late Aziz Bhiuiyan of Choto Shidholpura under Damodda upazila in Shariatpur district and Ripon Mollah, 30, son of Nur Hossain of Khailkora village under Kaliganj upazila in Gazipur district.
RAB-1 sources said, on a secret information, a team of RAB conducted a raid at the house owned by one Riazul Islam at Mukterbari road of Tongi  at around 9.15 pm on Friday and arrested alleged yaba trader Jafar Alam and his wife Lucky. They seized 22,000 pieces of yaba tablets and Tk 89,000 from their possession. Later, according to their statement, the RAB members arrested Nannu Bhuiyan  along with 1230 pieces of yaba tablets and Tk 2,70,000 from Tongi. Later Nannu, Ripon Mollah was arrested along with 770 pieces of yaba and Tk 362,000 from a residence at Uttara in Dhaka.
RAB-1 sources said, the arrested Jafar and Lucky along with others two traders Joni and Soma brought big consignement of yaba from Cox’bazar and sell Uttara and Gazipur areas for a long time.
