The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested four alleged members of the women’s cell of the banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). They have been identified as Aklima Rahman, Osshi, Mou, and Meghna. Osshi is an intern at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, while the other three are students of the pro-Jamaat Manarat University. Addressing a press briefing at the RAB-4 office in the city, Khandaker Lutful Kabir, commanding officer of RAB-4, said JMB’s south regional commander Md Mahmudul Hasan, who was arrested in Gazipur on July 21, had spilled the beans on the four women.
Aklima had allegedly collected Tk. 12,000 from JMB supporters on Ramadan. That was when RAB started keeping a watch on her.
Aklima took admission to Manarat University’s pharmacy department in 2013. She is a fourth-year student at the university.
Along with her studies, she started learning Arabic and was allegedly involved in issuing the ‘dawah’ (invitation for Jihad). She allegedly convinced many women to accept the ‘dawah’.
The RAB arrested Aklima from her residence in Narayanganj’s Signboard area early Tuesday. During primary interrogation, she apparently admitted that she has been working for JMB for around one-and-a-half years.
She apparently collected funds for JMB and sent it to their leader Hasan. She reportedly claimed that Osshi was involved in JMB for more than three years and had contributed Tk. 8,000 to the outfit.
According to the RAB official, Osshi studied in Viqarunnisa Noon School and College from 1998 to 2010. Then she joined the MBBS course, 2010–2011 academic session, in Dhaka Medical College. She graduated in January 2016. In June 2016, she joined the medical college hospital as an intern doctor.
“We arrested Osshi from her Mogbazar residence in the city on Monday morning,” said Lutful Kabir, who is also an additional inspector general of Bangladesh Police. The RAB reportedly found a huge amount of Jihadi publications in her possession.
About Mou, the RAB-4 director said she took admission to the pharmacy department of Manarat University in 2013 and is currently a seventh-semester student. She was involved in JMB activities for around seven months, claimed the RAB official. RAB arrested her from her house in the city’s Mirpur area on Monday night. Seeing the RAB, she allegedly destroyed the memory card of her mobile phone, but RAB managed to seize her laptop on which she had stored Jihadi materials in a password-protected file. The RAB also seized a huge amount of Jihadi literature from her possession.
In primary interrogation, Osshi apparently claimed that Aklima and Mou had invited Meghna and her to join JMB. Meghna reportedly passed her HSC from Cambrian College in 2013. She was married to one Rokonozzaman in 2013. She continued to study in Manarat University, where she is currently a fourth-year student.
The RAB nabbed her from her rented house in Mirpur on Monday night. Here, too, RAB seized a huge amount of Jihadi materials. Lutful Kabir said they would file a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Mirpur Model police station.
