BNP senior leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain yesterday alleged that their chairperson Khaleda Zia's younger son Arafat Rahman Koko died due to torture by the 1/11 administration, reports UNB.
"Alongside Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman, Arafat Rahman Koko was not spared during the 1/11 regime. Though he was sick, he was tortured, affecting his health badly," he said.
Speaking at a doa and milad mahfil, Mosharraf further said, "Koko later died in Malaysia while undergoing treatment. We've lost him only for torture inflicted on him."
BNP arranged the programme on the ground floor of the BNP's Nayapaltan central office, marking Koko's 47th birthday.
On January 24, 2015, Koko died of cardiac arrest at the age of 45 at his rented house in Malaysia. His body was brought back home on January 27 and buried at Banani Graveyard.
Referring to the participation of huge number of people in Koko's namaz-e-janaza, the BNP leader said the 'massive janaza' demonstrated how the country's people love Zia family.
Mosharraf alleged that Bangladesh has been turned into a failed state due to the current government's misrule.
Under the circumstances, he urged BNP leaders and activists to take a vow to save the country from the grasp of the current fascist regime.
Addressing the programme, BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy asked party disappointed leaders deprived of posts in the new committees to have patience, saying they will be evaluated.
He also asked them to get united as the country's people are now waiting to get rid of the misrule of the current government under the leadership of Khaleda Zia.
Earlier at a programme, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said there is no scope for creating any confusion over Khaleda Zia's call for a national unity as he did it from the core of her heart. Speaking at a discussion arranged by NDP at Dhaka Reporters' Unity, he alleged that Awami League has ignored the unity as it wants to rule the country dividing the nation instead of uniting it.
