AL to take country to desired destination: Syed Ashraf

The ruling Awami League (AL) General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam yesterday said that the country will reach its desired destination under the leadership of the party. “The history of Awami League is the history of dedication and achievements. The party is working hard to take the country forward and I believe the country will reach its desired destination under the leadership of the party,” he said. Syed Ashraf, also the LGRD and Cooperatives Minister, was talking to reporters after placing wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi on the occasion of the 66th founding anniversary of the Awami League. The AL general secretary said there are many political parties in Bangladesh but no party has done more than AL for the betterment of the country. He also hoped that the young leadership of AL will work to turn the country into Bangabandhu’s ‘Sonar Bangla’
Earlier, marking the founding anniversary of the party, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at his portrait.
The prime minister also stood in silence for some time to pay respect to the memory of Bangabandhu. Flanked by senior leaders of Bangladesh Awami League, Sheikh Hasina, also the president of the party, placed another wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of the Awami League.
Awami League Presidium members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Obaidul Quader,
Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Advocate Sahara Khatun and Satish Chandra Roy, Advisory Council members Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed and Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, Joint Secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif and other central leaders of the party were present.

yesterday celebrated the party's 66th founding anniversary through various programmes in Chittagong city.
The programmes included bringing out processions, placing wreaths at the portrait of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, hoisting national and party flags and discussion meetings.
Chittagong city, north and south district units of AL and its front organisations brought out colourful processions yesterday morning.
Defying daylong drizzle the colourful procession of City AL started from Laldighi Maidan and ended on Shahid Minar premises after parading through important city streets yesterday noon. Thousands of jubilant workers and supporters carrying placards, banners, portraits of Bangabandhu and his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and chanted slogans in favour of peace, progress and against politics of destruction.
