This year, the students of Naogaon KD Government High School won the National Children’s Quiz Festival 2016 that took place in the Bangladesh Shishu Academy premises, says a press release. The competition is arranged for school students all over the country and preliminary rounds were conducted at district level and students from all 64 districts participated in the contest.
Mowabbez Rahoman Jim, a tenth grader of the Naogaon KD Government High School and a member of the winning team said: “I am feeling really overwhelmed. Our opponents gave us a fair fight and were tough contenders. I am grateful to the organisers, Bangladesh Shishu Academy and Quizzers Bangladesh for arranging this huge programme. It is my earnest request to the government to launch these kinds of programmes regularly.”
Another member of the champion team Numan Ahmad Chowdhury, also a tenth grader said: “I always had a dream of becoming the best in the country. The dream came true. We performed well and I cannot put words to what I am feeling at this moment. Special thanks to Quizzers Bangladesh and Bangladesh Shishu Academy for arranging such an excellent competition. They have given a great platform for quiz enthusiasts all over the country. We need more platforms like this.”
An astounding 1492 team participated in this contest, and each team consisted of four members, and all the participating students were from seventh to tenth grade. This brought together almost 6000 participants from every corner of the country.
After it’s launching in February, this mega quiz festival went on for three and half months. Initially, 180 teams were narrowed down through preliminary competitions and then 18 top teams were invited to participate in the national festival which was held at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy.
After three semi-finals and the grand finale, Naogaon KD Government High School became the champion team and St Gregory’s High School from Dhaka was the runner-up.
The prize giving ceremony was held at Shishu Academy auditorium. The ceremony was chaired by the director of Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Mosharrof Hossain and the chief guest of this programme was Meher Afroz Chumki, Minister of State, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
Bangladesh Shishu Academy organised this massive quiz festival in association with Quizzers Bangladesh. The whole programme was coordinated by Razina Akhter, head of library, Bangladesh Shishu Academy.
The president of Quizzers Bangladesh who was the quizmaster of the grand finale of the National Children’s Quiz Festival 2016, Saekh Hasan said: “The mission of Quizzers Bangladesh is to spread standard quizzing in every corner of the country. It is a uniform platform for all Bangladeshi quizzers. It has been a fabulous experience for Quizzers Bangladesh team to work with Bangladesh Shishu Academy in this huge project. I sincerely hope this event will be hosted regularly and we can inspire more school children to participate. I would like to thank Bangladesh Shishu Academy for choosing Quizzers Bangladesh as a working partner for this programme.”
