Holding ears, netizens protest

Netizens are changing their Facebook profile pictures with holding their ears in solidarity with a school headmaster who recently was humiliated publicly, reports UNB.
In a unique form of protest, people from all walks of life are uploading their images on different social media platforms, holding their ears and apologising with the hashtags #SorrySir or #wersorrysir or #WeAreSorrySir. The outrage broke out since a video of Headmaster Shyamol Kanti Bhakta being punished by the MP hit the social media.
Media personalities—Iresh Zaker and Rawnak Hasan— have also changed their Facebook profile pictures, protesting the shameful incident.
Besides, many common people have also posted status over public humiliation of the teacher.
The general students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology held a human chain demonstration holding their ears extending solidarity to the headmaster.
Shyamol Kanti Bhakta has been the Headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif Aman High School for 17 years. He was called in for meeting last Friday. He was accused of hitting a
student and he was held at the school. While he was being held, microphone of the mosque was used to allege Shyamol Kanti of ant-Islamist statements.
He was denied of any defense as the mob started to beat him up. Then local MP Selim Osman arrived and took charge of the situation. He told Shyamol Kanti to do sit-ups holding his own ears- an infamous punishment often issued by teachers for unruly students.  As of today- Shymaol Kanti has been suspended indefinitely.
A video of the incident went viral on the social media and created uproar of indignation. Many proclaimed that humiliating a teacher like that is insulting for the whole nation. As a part of the protest, people are posting heir photo holding their ears n Facebook. These photos are often accompanied by the caption- “we are sorry sir.”
Minister of Education, Nurul Islam Nahid, said, “Harassing a teacher is a penal offence. The associates of the incident will be brought to justice.”
