Yunnan's largest sinkhole cluster found in Zhenxiong Experts suggest applying for national geological park status

Zhenxiong County is located in the juncture area of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan. Sitting on the northern slope of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, it features rolling mountains and crisscrossing ravines. Its geological landscapes mainly include typical karst landforms, plateau canyon landform, sandstone land forms, geological disaster sites, paleontological fossil sites and ancient human fossil sites. In April 2015, the Zhenxiong Tourism Development Office devoted a large amount of human and material resources to an intensive investigation of the county's cave resources and identified a total of 204 karst caves.

 Earlier this month, the Institute of Karst Geology of Chinese Geological Bureau, the Chinese Ministry of Land and Resources, investigated the sinkhole resources in Zhenxiong County of Zhaotong, Yunnan and unveiled the "miraculous, unique, precipitous and elegant" karst landforms of the Daguoquan sinkhole cluster. Based on an all-round scientific investigation and argumentation, they coneluded that the Zhenxiong sinkhole cluster is the larg­ est of its kind in Yunnan. They suggested applying for the national geological park   status   and joining these resources to form a contiguous tourist area. Experts said: “Let’s not waste these precious gifts and blessings from nature and let’s introduce these masterpieces more people."
