While the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) gets closer, the clubs sweat over in recruiting the foreign players to plague the loopholes which surfaced after the players’ draft.
The teams have been in series of discussion with the foreign players whom they want but few teams as of now finally could make the deal done.
For the various leagues in the different part of the world made the clubs’ task tough to get their desired players. However some known foreign faces of the Dhaka league will turn up for different clubs, according to the officials.
Legends of Rupganj tried to draw the attention with roping in South African batsman Hashim Amla but the elegant batsman couldn’t get the ‘No Objection Certificate’ from his board. Brothers Union also chased Amla but with no vain. Zimbabwe all-rounder Shaun Williams will play in Brothers Union.
Sri Lanka opener Upul Tharanga gave the confirmation to domestic giant Mohammedan Sporting Club, a club in which Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi will also play at some point of the league, said the team’s manager Wasim Khan.
Abahani Limited will bring up Sri Lankan all-rounder Chamara Kapugedara. The 17 times DPL champions also get in touch with an Indian player, revealed its vice-chairman Jalal Younus.
Kalabagan Cricket Academy recruited England’s Ashar Zaidi who was adjudged the player of the tournament in the last BPL. Kalabagan Krira Chakra roped in Zimbabwe captain Hamilton Masakadza.
Defending champions Prime Bank Cricket Club roped in Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik and Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Munaweera but the former didn’t get any NOC from his board. The last year’s runner-up Prime Doleshwar got Sri Lanka’s Lahiru Malintha. Victoria Sporting Club recruited Sri Lankan Chaturanga De Silva while newcomer Gazi Group Cricketers got Pakistan’s Saeed Anwar Junior from the beginning.
According to the bylaws of the league, the clubs might register foreign cricket as much as they want but could play just one player in the match. The DPL is all set to begin on Friday.
