Workers� demo at CEPZ for salary

Workers of Young International, a Korean garment factor in Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ), yesterday staged demonstration and laid siege to the CEPZ main gate for 10 per cent yearly increment and salary of one month which was remains due. They laid siege to the main gate till 12 pm which also obstacles to other workers of the CEPZ area to enter their respective factories. In the CEPZ around 1, 42,000  workers are working in 147 different factories. With the mitigation of Industrial Police, Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority, Young International authorities the workers withdrew the programme at around 12pm. Discussing with the factory authorities and the workers the dispute was solved, said Abul Kashem, Deputy Director of Industrial Police. “The workers of the Young International laid siege the main gate of the CEPZ for the one month’s outstanding salary and 10 per cent yearly increment. After mitigation the matter, the workers lifted their programme,” said Tofail Ahmed Miah, Director of Industrial Police.
