5 injured during robbery at Gazipur resort

Robbers looted cash and valuables from a resort at Pingail area of Gazipur early yesterday, leaving five people, including proctor of National University, injured. The injured were HM Tayehid Jamal Shipu, 45, proctor of National University, deputy director of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Uttara office Ashrafuzzaman, 55, inspector of Gazipur BRTA office  Wajed Hossain, 52, Nurul Islam, 50, car driver of Ashrafuzzaman, staff of the resort Ismail Hossain.
Among the injured, BRTA official Ashrafuzzaman was sent to Ibne Sina Hospital in Dhaka in critical condition and others were sent to Gazipur Shahid Taz Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital. Nazmul Haque, sub-Inspector of Hotapara police outpost under Joydebpur police station, said a group of armed robbers numbering 25 to 30 swooped on Rajendra Eco Resort in Pingail area of the city around 2.30 am on Friday. They entered all of the rooms of resort tied the guests up with ropes and looted all belonging of boarders, including mobile phone sets, gold ornaments and cash. They also beat them up mercilessly. A guest of the resort named Wakib Hossain said they were staying in the resort to look after the preparedness of their picnic, scheduled to be held on Friday. Proctor Tayehid Jamal said he, along with his family members, was staying in the resort to attend a picnic of National university’s officials and employees. He said the robbers entered his room after breaking the doors and tied hands and legs of all of them. “They beat up us and looted luggage, Tk 25000, 4 mobile sets and gold ornament”, he added.
