Bangabandhu portrait distorted by graphic designer, says Latif

Bangabandhu portrait distorted by graphic designer, says Latif

MA Latif, Awami League lawmaker from Chittagong-11 constituency, yesterday held a graphic designer responsible for distorting a portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The picture of Bangabandhu that the MP had sent to the designer did not have enough resolution to make a large portrait, and therefore, to find an alternative way, they had distorted it, he said. Referring to the incident of the distortion of Bangabandhu’s portrait, Latif said he has suffered an irreparable loss, adding, “In success there is also failure. I am neither an angel nor Satan, but I am being ‘auctioned’ to the nation over the incident.” “I have identified the men connected with the distortion of the portrait. Listen to them,” said the lawmaker while addressing a press briefing at Chittagong World Trade Centre (WTC) yesterday.
At the press briefing, Latif presented graphic designer Kabir Hossain, designer of Haider Printers of Anderkilla, and Rajib Das, a member of the staff of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who admitted their fault and involvement in the incident. Haider Printers had been assigned to print the festoons.
Kabir Hossain explained, “In our attempt to present Bangabandhu in the festoons clearly, the incident of the distortion occurred. It was our duty to print the festoons with a full-size portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”
“Actually, we did not have a picture to make a 10-feet-long festoon. This problem arose as we had to ensure that there was a full-size picture of Bangabandhu. We had no other motive. I called Rajib  and asked him to send a photo of a person wearing a Mujib coat,” he said. “Rajib sent me a picture of MA Latif. I tagged Bangabandhu’s face on it so as to present the portrait clearly,” he added.
Rajib Das also echoed Kabir Hossain’s stand at the press briefing. “I have done this to complete the work within the shortest possible time. I did this from my own thinking (sic), and my motive was not dishonest. Later, because of the shortage of time, I could not show it to anyone,” said Kabir.
Allegations were levelled that the ruling party’s MP had superimposed the face of  Bangabandhu on his own body in the image during the visit of prime minister to Chittagong last month.  MA Latif has denied the allegation of distorting Bangabandhu’s portrait.
