Famed actor, director and cultural personality Syed Hasan Imam, for his immense contributions over the years to the field of culture and entertainment, will be honoured with a lifetime achievement award. The momentous occasion is set to take place during the upcoming ‘Lux RTV Star Award 2015’, which will be held tomorrow at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre. The grand event, to be aired live, will recognize the previous year’s (2015) tele-dramas, drama serials, directors, actors, singers and dance artistes.
The announcement of Syed Hasan Imam’s award came at a press conference held on January 18 at Hotel Sonargoan in the capital. Syed Ashik Rahman, chief executive officer of RTV, assistant manager of Unilever Bangladesh Media Ltd Ehsanur Rahman, associate director of Asiatic Mindshare Jahangir Kabir, head of marketing and sales of Ziska Pharmaceuticals Ltd Dr Syed Ahmed, head of programme of RTV Dewan Shamsur Rakib and head of marketing Sudip Chandra Ghosh, among others, were present at the press conference.
Born on July 27, 1935 in Bardhaman, India, Syed Hasan Imam started his film career in 1960 and television career in 1964. In 1961, during the Central Festival, he performed as the lead actor in Drama Circle’s production titled ‘Taasher Desh’, ‘Raja O Rani’ and ‘Rakta Karobi’.
In addition to acting, he also directed quite a number of plays such as Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Rakta Karobi’, Maxim Gorky’s ‘Ma’, Somen Chandra’s ‘Na’, among others. In 1969, during the mass protests, about 10, 000 spectators were present at Bangla Academy to watch ‘Rakta Karobi’, which received immense appreciation.
Some of his notable films include ‘Raja Elo Sohore’, ‘Sheeth Bikel’, ‘Janajani’, ‘Dharapaat’, among others. For his iconic performance in Khan Ataur Rahman’s ‘Onek Diner Chena’, he won best actor award at the Pakistan Film Festival in 1965.
For his immense contributions towards his profession, Syed Hasan Imam was also bestowed with the National Film Award, Bangla Academy Honourary Fellowship, the prestigious Ekushey Padak, Bangladesh Chalachitra Sangbadik Samiti Award, and the Sequence Award for his role during the Liberation War. He also appeared as a judge in various international film festivals. Overall, in the entertainment and cultural world of Bangladesh, Syed Hasan Imam is a veteran with an experience accumulating almost four decades. Fans of the veteran will get to see him receiving his much deserved Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be aired live on RTV tomorrow at 7pm.
