Workers party calls for Jamaat ban

BSS

The Workers' Party of Bangladesh, a component of the ruling Grand Alliance government, in a meeting of its Politburo, yesterday, called upon the government to ban the Jamaat-e-Islami and continue the government's non-communal democratic politics and end all undesirable militant activities. It also condemned Pakistan's undue interference in the internal affairs of Bangladesh by openly supporting war criminals like Ali Ahsan Mujahid and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, reports BSS. It also condemned Pakistan's inaction in trying the 195 POWs who were indicted for war crimes, as promised by Pakistan in the Simla Agreement. It also criticized Pakistan's request to take back Bangladesh's diplomat Moushumi Rahman without any reason and termed it as undiplomatic.
The Politburo also felt that Bangladesh should not be part of any military alliance, as it follows a policy of non-alignment. The meeting was chaired by the president of the party, Comrade Rashed Khan Menon, MP, while a political report on the current situation was read out by the party general secretary, Comrade Fazle Hossain Badshah, MP. Others who were present at the meeting included Politburo members-- Comrades Bimal Biswas, Nurul Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan Manik, Hafizur Rahman Bhuiyan, Mohiuddin Ahmed, Noor Ahmed Bakul, Manoj Saha, Hajera Sultana, MP, Kamrul Ahsan, Aminul Islam Golam and Advocate Mustafa Lutfullah, MP.
