Two edible oil cos fined Tk 24 lakh

A mobile court yesterday fined two edible oil companies named Teer Soybean Oil, a sister concern of City Group and Dada Soybean Oil, a sister concern of Mrs Elias & Brothers and to Tk 24, 00,000 for producing oil in unhygienic environment and without giving  vitamins ‘A’ and ‘D’. A team of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI) and Rab-7 led by Sarwar Alam, executive magistrate of Rab-7 conducted the drive in North Patenga area in the factories of the companies from 11am to 4pm and fined the companies.
“Government enacted to include certain amount of vitamin with edible Oil. When we were conducting mobile court we found the companies did not mix vitamin ‘A’ and ‘D’, however, they have written on  the label of bottles that the certain vitamin was mixed with the edible oil,” said Sarwar Alam, the executive magistrate.
“Moreover we found that the edible oil was producing in an unhygienic environment at Dada Soybean Oil factory. They also did not renew their BSTI license; however, using the logo of BSTI selling the oil in market, so we have fined them Tk20, 00,000” said Sarwar Alam.
“Teer Soybean Oil was fined for the same ground that they are not giving certain amount vitamin ‘A’ and ‘D’ with edible Oil. They also did not renew their BSTI license. The company was fined Tk400, 000,” added Sarwar Alam.
“Government makes mandatory to give certain amount of vitamin with edible oil. However, some dishonest companies are not following the government directives and selling their edible oil and using our Logo without renewing their license,” said Md Shahfayat Hossain, an officer of BSTI Chittagong. “At North Patenga area we have fined, the two companies for not giving certain vitamin with the edible Oil” added, Hossain.
