‘Bijoygatha’ hits Blockbuster Cinemas tomorrow

On the occasion of the momentous Victory Day, a short film based on the Liberation War of Bangladesh titled ‘Bijoygatha’ will hit Blockbuster Cinema in the capital’s Jamuna Future Park tomorrow. Directed by Azad Kalam, ‘Bijoygatha’ stars National Film Award-winning actor Riaz, Trisha, Shakil Ahmed, Siddiqur Rahman and Tareq Mahmud, among others. The screenplay has been written by Ashok Basak and Partha Mazumdar worked for background music of the film. The shooting of the short film took place in Manikganj in November of last year. Regarding the film, Azad Kalam said, “An Australian based company has purchased the film. They will release the film in the cinema hall. I am also involved with them. For the occasion of Victory Day, the film will be released in one cinema hall. Afterwards, it may be screened in other halls such as Star Cineplex, Balaka, etc. Since our audiences are not too accustomed to short films, this 70-minute film will only be screened in one cinema hall. Then it will also be shown in some places in Australia.’ The story of ‘Bijoygatha’ is set three months prior to the Liberation War. Riaz is a college-going village boy and for his talent in javelin throwing, he is well known among the village community. The invasion of the Pakistan army shatters all his hopes and dreams. He becomes a victim and as a punishment, he is given the torturous task of digging graves, the graves of his own people who have been shot and killed by the Pakistani army. The story moves forward from there.
