Chuadanga, Noakhali free day today

On this day the enemy forces killed hundreds of innocent people, set fire to houses, shops and damaged bridges

Chuadanga district was freed from the clutches of Pakistani Army on December 7 in 1971. This day is being observed by different socio-cultural organisations and political parties and Chuadanga Muktijoddha Sangsad in a befitting manner. The day-long programme includes hoisting of national flag, rally, discussion meeting, cultural function and showing of documentaries on freedom fight.  The people of the district celebrate the day every year with great joy, pride and enthusiasm.
 Pakistani occupation army captured Chuadanga district on April 16,1971. They shot to death about 4 hundred people at Sarajganj Bazaar and set fire to houses and shops on the day. In Chuadanga town, over 150 common people were killed by the occupation army on the day.  On August 5, 1971, a fighting erupted between Pakistani occupation forces and freedom fighters at village Jagannathpur-Ratanpur in Damurhuda upazila of the district.  At least 8 freedom fighters were killed during the fight. The martyred freedom fighters are Kiamuddin, Hasanzaman, Abul Kashem, Rowshan Ali, Robiul Islam, Alaul Islam Khakon, Afazuddin and Tarek Rahman. Local people buried them at village Jagannathpur.
A momentum of the eight martyred freedom fighters and one rest house were built on one acre of land at the direct initiative of freedom fighter Solaiman Hoque Joarder, MP. A park has also been established there.  On August 7 in 1971, five freedom fighters were martyred during a fight with Pakistani soldiers at Dhupakali village in Jibannagar upazila of the district. They are Abdul Gofur, Abdur Rashid, Abu Bakar, Abdul Aziz and Siddique Ali. Some members of  Pakistani army were also killed by freedom fighters in the battle.
Before leaving Chuadanga on December 6 the members of Pakistani army damaged Jalshuka bridge on Hiajlgari-Chuadanga road, Daulatdiar bridge on Chuadanga-Meherpur road in sadar upazla, Lalbridge on Jibannagar-Chuadanga road in Jibannagar upazila, Chuadanga sadar hospital and  Chuadanga T &T office.  
Our correspondent from Noakhali adds: Today, December 7, is Noakhali free day. On this day local freedom fighters freed Noakhali town from the clutches of Pakistani occupants after a fierce battle at PTI compound at Maijdee town of the district. On this day, the enemy forces first swooped on Chowmohani commercial hub. Later, with the help of local razakars they set fire to houses, shops and  other business establishments in the town while local freedom fighters cordoned around PTI center. The district administration arranged different programmes that included  rally, discussion meeting at the PTI center Mokta Manch in observance of the day.
