For the momentous occasion of completing six decades, Bangla Academy celebrated their Diamond Jubilee on Thursday, featuring exhibitions, commemorative discussions and cultural exhibitions. The Diamond Jubilee began its inauguration by placing flower wreaths on the grave of National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and educationist, writer, philologist and linguist Dr Md Shahidullah. A felicitation programme was held held at Rabindra Chattar for Bangla Academy’s noted members, fellows, poets, writers and intellectuals and key members.
Director General of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan gave welcome speech. Finance Minsiter Abul Maal Abdul Muhit was present as chief guest while Cultural Affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor, president of Paschimbanga Bangla Academy (Bangla Academy of West Bengal) Shaoli Mitra and president of Kolkata’s Bongio Shahitto Parishad Baridabaran Ghosh were present as special guests, presided over by president of Bangla Academy Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman.
Anandita Kazi, granddaughter of Kazi Nazrul Islam, along with popular singers of two generations Rafiqul Alam and Anima Ray performed on stage as part of the cultural programme to celebrate the grand occasion.
