Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that they have taken measures to ensure safety and security while celebrating ‘Mujib Barsha’, the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, that will begin on March 17. “There is no terror threat and they are yet to receive any information on terror threat,” he told reporters after holding a meeting at the home ministry yesterday. Kamal said the authorities concerned, especially intelligence and law enforcement agencies, will carry out surveillance of people who will try to carry out propaganda.
Reply to a question, the minister said no one will protest against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi because people are eager to celebrate ‘Mujib Barsha’. “Bangladesh is a secular country and India had supported us all the way during the Liberation War in 1971 and we are grateful to them,” he added. The home minister said over one lakh guests are likely to attend programmes of ‘Mujib Barsha’ and security measures have already been taken. He also said they will send a letter to the education ministry, asking it to complete the programmes of celebrating ‘Mujib Barsha’ by 11am. The Awami League (AL) will celebrate Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from March 17 and it would continue till March 26, 2021.
