Bangladesh national cricket team left handed batsman Soumya Sarkar began the second innings of his life when he tied the knot with 19-year-old Priyonti Debnath Puja yesterday. The wedding ceremony took place at the Khulna Club last night (Wednesday) in a grandiose manner following all the traditional religious rituals.
Soumya’s wife Puja has completed her ‘O’ Level this year from an English medium school in Dhaka. It is learnt that Puja is the youngest daughter of Gopal Debnath, who is a businessman while her mother Madhobi Debnath is a housewife. The bride’s family hailing from Tutpara in Khulna, has been living in Dhaka.
However, the festive occasion was slightly disrupted by an unfortunate incident over stealing few mobile phones from the party which was later on brought under control by police. Two people also held over the incident, according to reports. Soumya’s wedding reception will be held at Mozaffar Garden in the Satkhira town on February 28 where local VIPs and cricket personalities have been invited to attend the program, said Soumya’s father Kishori Mohon Sarkar.
Earlier, the traditional ‘Gaye Holud’ program of Soumya was held on February 26. Soumya Sarkar, who represented the Tigers’ in 15 Tests, 55 ODIs and 48 T20Is so far, made his Test and T20I debut against Pakistan in 2015 while received his ODI cap in 2014 against Zimbabwe.
