TSC cultural bodies stand for tea seller

The social and cultural organisations of Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University (DU) stand together seeking justice for Abdul Jalil alias Swapan mama, a tea-seller on TSC premises.

They arranged a press conference at Dhaka University Journalism Association (DUJA) yesterday demanding withdrawal of false cases filed against Swapan and seeking justice for his physically challenged daughter who was allegedly raped on September 29, 2018.  On the same day, victim’s family filed a case with Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station against alleged rapist Baccu Mia, 50, along with his two siblings Bahar Mia, 45 and Akkas Mia, 40, DUJA president Raihanul Haque Abir informed the media while reading out a written statement.

After coming out of jail on bail, the accused were threatening victim’s family to withdraw the case. One of the accused Bahar Mia also filed two cases against Abdul Jalil and his family members on charge of possessing illegal drugs and vandalising their property.  DUJA president has also announced that social and cultural organisations of TSC will form a human chain around 1pm today (Thursday) and will hold a cultural and protest programme around 3pm.

Abdul Jalil alias Swapan mama, who used to sell tea from almost three decades on DU campus, through the press conference urged the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to take steps for preventing the this kind of heinous crime against women.
