Rana, the most in-form pacer in BPL

Sports Reporter from Ctg

Mehedi Hasan Rana is now the center of all the discussions during the second phase of the Bangabandhu-Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Twenty20 Cricket Tournament for his jaw-dropping bowling performance. Rana has earned the accolades of player-of-the-match in two successive matches for his timely breakthrough and picking the key wickets at the crucial moments of the match that brought confidence-boosting success not only for himself but the team also.

It was a different scenario a month back. Each team picked their choiceable players from the BPL Players’ Draft-2019. But Rana was unsold in the draft, where none of the seven participation teams showed any interest to pick the left-handed pacer for their BPL team.  The 22-year-old-pacer was out of cricket for one and half-a-year due to his hernia operation. He didn’t show his mettle at any stage after being returned to cricket from his protracted injury layoff. He felt insistence inside him not to get a call from any team in the BPL Players’ Draft. He could not accept that he will sit idle while his year-mate and co-teammates of the domestic cricket circuit will play in the special BPL.

What a turn of fate. The left-handed young pacer is now the cynosure of the bowlers in the Bangabandhu-BPL in the difference of a month. He established himself as a fierce bowler in the BPL for match-winning bowling performance in the last three matches on the trot. Before joining the tents of Chattogram in BPL, the Chandpur-lad he took part at net bowling practice at the National Cricket Academy of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur for Rangpur Rangers. But he is now enthralling the divisional home ground wearing jersey for Chattogram Challengers.

It’s been possible for him to play in BPL due to Chattogram captain Mahmudullah Riyad and experienced batsman Imrul Kayes, who got the leadership of the Challengers in absence of the regular captain.
