Sylhet Thunders rule out underdog tag

Ruling out the underdog tag, Sylhet Thunders team director Sarwar Imran has said that they are still in search of new cricketers to compete well in the upcoming Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League as they would miss some of the overseas players from the beginning of the tournament due to their respective commitments.

The Thunders called two West Indies players Sherfane Rutherford and Johnson Charles from the players’ draft chart held on November 17 and later on roped in another Caribbean fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell outside the draft. But the trio are all set to miss some parts of the tournament after Rutherford and Charles said they will play in the Qatar T10 league from December 7-16 while Cottrell, also known as “The Saluteman” has been picked up by the West Indies Cricket Board for their tour of India, to be played from December 6-12.

While talking to the reporters at the academy ground of the SBNCS yesterday Sarwar Imran told reporters, “We’re still trying to rope in some new players and we’ve been suffering at the moment due to shortage of players. Rutherford, Charles are all good players though but they won’t come in due time for the Qatar T10 League. In addition to this, we will miss Sheldon Cottrell too because he will play for West Indies in the upcoming India series. Pakistani Mohammad Sami to come in place of Cottrell. He is expected to join the latter part of the tournament. But, I am hopeful we can come back from that position.” In the meantime, Thunders head coach Herschelle Gibbs said expressed his excitement to be get appointed as the Thunder boss.
