The second edition of Embassy Cup Football Tournament, an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to enhance the relationships with the motto “Sports for Peace”, is set to begin today at Armed Police Battalion Headquarters ground in Uttara. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan will inaugurate the two-day meet as the chief guest, said a press release.
A total of sixteen teams, including thirteen foreign embassies, will participate in the tournament under one roof. The event is organized by Sports School and Activist, thanks to the sponsors Walton and SMC drinking water which come forward to make the event for success.
The teams are embassies of Australia, Bhutan, Iraq, South Korea, the Maldives, Norway, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Sweden, the USA and Vietnam. Beside, a team from United Nations, Diplomat Police and Ministry of Foreign Affairs are taking part in the tournament.
State Minister for Foreign affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, and State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell, MP, are expected to present in the final. South Korea and Palestine are the defending champions and runners-up teams respectively of the tournament.
