BUET Photographic Society

The university life in BUET is so full with the hectic preoccupations of the academia, the routine of class after class with more classes to follow, the tension that precedes every weekly exams and assignments and those sleep less nights that come with it. Therefore photography comes as an obvious instrument of sharing with the world the visions of the youth of our country. To that respect BUET Photographic Society ((BUETPS) was founded, to nature and guide the young people who believe to change the world with every click of a camera. BUETPS is a creative platform of students, alumni and faculties of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) with an aim to promote photography.
BUETPS was primarily founded in 1998 and holds an aim to guide the passionate students and associates of BUET into the amazing world of Photography. Therefore it enables the exchanging of skills, expertise and above all visions between the members. Thus they learn from each other and improve their skills and rectify the mistakes. In that process BUETPS arranges weekly photo discussion sessions and regular photo outings to different parts of Bangladesh. The photo discussions help both the new and the veteran as both exchange views about the problems they face while shooting and together explore the technical and aesthetic solutions. While discussions serves as mere hypothetical learning, photo outings serves as effective field experience to implement what is learned. Photo outings also train the students to adjust with the surroundings, interact with the common people and thereby become a part of them. For a photographer this is a really important trait one need to master if one wants to preserve the truest essence of life into the photographs.
In order to provide opportunity of learning the pros and cons of photography directly from the ‘Pros’, interactive workshops are arranged in every academic term. BUETPS also organizes annual photo exhibitions and showcases the works of the students and teachers.
In retrospect, BUETPS has produced some brilliant photographers like Abdul Aziz Apu, Navid Bin Shakwat, Naser Imran Hossain ,and many more who have achieved excellence in the field. They have immensely influenced the young photographers of Bangladesh to excel and seek for perfection. Today with above 400 enthusiast members in home and abroad BUETPS remains a welcoming family to the new and a caring home for all who love and live photography.
