The 7th “Green Talents – International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development” culminated in an awards ceremony in Berlin on Oct 30, says a press release.
Wilfried Kraus, Head of the BMBF Directorate “Sustainability, Climate, Energy”, honoured 27 young scientists from 20 countries. Among the awardees are Bangladeshi scientists, Shougat Khan, 25, and MD Golam Kibria, 31.

Shougat Khan, Masters in Green Energy Technology,
Independent University of Bangladesh.

Kraus emphasised the relevance of the Green Talents Programme for international science cooperation: “We need international collaboration to tackle the challenges of our times. The Green

MD Golam Kibria, PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering, McGill University, Canada.
Research focus: The development of nitride-based nanoscale photocatalysts for efficient and stable solar water splitting and CO2 reduction to generate sustainable hydrogen and hydrocarbon fuels.

Talents belong to a network consisting of 158 young researchers from all over the world striving for sustainability who are passionate about the work of science in Germany. Such international networks are essential for us to see the bigger picture, to develop new ideas and strong partnerships, and to enhance the transfer of technology from research into practical application.”
This year’s competition attracted over 550 applicants from more than 90 countries. The jury of experts selected 27 winners from this pool of talented researchers. From urban planning, biodiversity, renewable energy and resource management to the socio-political implications of new technologies, the winners covered an impressively broad range of academic research with diverse achievements.
The awardees were invited to participate in a two-week Science Forum during which they visited top locations for sustainability research in Germany and exchanged ideas with the country’s leading experts. Against the background of the Year of Science “City of the Future”, urban issues were brought into focus.
