‘Era’ showcases 10 young artists

Today’s art scene in Dhaka is more vibrant than ever. New galleries are being opened on a regular basis and countless exhibitions are hosted. This not only encourages the young artists, but provides them with platforms where they can exhibit their creations.
In keeping with this trend, Gallery Twenty One in Dhanmondi is hosting a group show, ‘Era’, where 10 promising young artists are showcasing their artworks.
The participating artists _ Jewel A Rob, Pervaj Hassan Rigan, Azmol Hosen, Bubly Barna, Jaharia Alam Jenifar, Nabila Mehzabin, Nahfia Jahan Monni, Sayed Fida Hossain, Tanvir Jalal and Upoma Das Trina _ have been friends for a long time.
Talking to this correspondent at the show’s opening on October 30, the artists said they had always wanted to do something together. The idea for this group exhibition had come to them some time ago. And for the last four months, they have been working on the exhibit.
Curated by artist Mohammad Iqbal, some 24 different paintings are on display at the show. Most of the works are contemporary and of the figurative variety.  The artists all have different styles, and their friendship has obviously helped them to enrich each other’s works.
“All these young artists are my students. I am glad that I got to curate their group exhibition. I believe they are very talented. The paintings here are contemporary and figurative _ a lot of hard work has been put in by the artists,” said Mohammad Iqbal.
Shameem Subrana, founding executive director of the gallery, said: “It’s a matter of great joy for us to be hosting this exhibition by 10 young talented artists. Gallery Twenty One was established in 1997 and we feel quite happy that we are able to provide artists with a platform. I, myself, am an artist and I wish these young people the very best.”
Veteran artist and writer Nisar Hossain  and Simeen Hussain Rimi, MP, jointly inaugurated the exhibition at the gallery on 751 Sat Masjid Road. The show will run till November 9, and stay open from 12pm to 8pm.
