IN CONVERSATION WITH FERDOUS AHMED

Celebrated actor to judge ‘Miss World Bangladesh’

Celebrated actor to judge
‘Miss World Bangladesh’

What are your expectations for the upcoming ‘Miss World Bangladesh’?
Ferdous: I was very excited when I heard about this beauty pageant. I have high expectations because two previous editions of this beauty pageant produced some talented artistes. This year, the beauty pageant will look not only for ‘beauty’, but also ‘beauty with a purpose’. Among the 37,000 contestants, we hope to find one who will represent our country. However, I think the preparation time for the winner to compete in the final event is very short. We should give her more time to get better results.

As some talent hunt ventures in recent times are being called biased and judges are called rude, what are your strategies to handle such situations?
Ferdous: I previously judged a number of shows. So, I am well aware of such problems. But I have always been impartial and unbiased in my judgment. Once I was asked by the programme authorities to make a particular contestant first, I refused to listen to them and never budged from my stand. Some judges are now being trolled for their judgment and behaviour towards the contestants. But I always remain professional in my approach. After all, the contestants come to these types of platforms with a lot of expectations. So, it’s my duty to make them feel welcome. Even when they get eliminated, I console them and try to encourage them for the future.
For the first time Ferdous-Moushumi duo is coming together as judges in a show. What do you think
about it?
Ferdous: Moushumi and I share good understanding, which helps us in our acting projects as well as in real life. Moushumi is well-educated and groomed. She always works with dedication and elegance. I look forward to our efficacious partnership in ‘Miss World Bangladesh’.

How is the shooting of your film ‘Gangchil’ going?
Ferdous: We have almost completed the shooting of ‘Gangchil’. At the beginning of the shooting, Purnima encountered a scooter accident. So, we are now shooting parts of the scooter scene. Since we wanted to shoot during all seasons as per the requirement of the story, we are still on schedule.

Apart from being an actor, judge and producer, you are also a writer. Will the audiences see your literary
work soon?

Ferdous: I have written several stories for drama in the past, but currently I am writing a novel. The work is still in progress. I hope to complete it by the end of this year. I hope to publish the novel in the Ekushey Book Fair next year. l
