Rangpur city BNP President Mozaffar Hossain died from a cardiac arrest in Rangpur last night at the age of 68. The BNP leader, also a Freedom Fighter, was returning to his residence after attending a programme marking the party’s 41st founding anniversary. The City BNP General Secretary Shahidul Islam Mizu has confirmed the news. Top BNP leaders including Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed shock at the death of Mozaffar, who was also the small and cottage industry affairs secretary of the party’s Central Executive Committee, and recalled his valour in the War of Liberation. The former city president was also one of the top picks for contesting the parliamentary by-polls in Rangpur-3, which fell vacant with the death of former president and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad.
